The Kurla GRP has succeeded in tracing the parents of a man who had committed suicide in a railway compound on March 2. Nayan Yadav, hailing from Fattehpur in UP, had hung himself from a tree between Nahur and Mulund stations.

His father Dharmaraj, 53, a farmer, revealed that Nayan had run away from home 14 years ago. He had lodged a missing person’s complaint at Bindki Kotwali police station in Fattehpur district.

He said, “Nayan was in Std IX when he ran away. We used to get complaints about him daily from the school authorities. Fed up, I slapped him twice in front of his schoolmates one day.  A couple of days later, he broke open my wife Kalpana’s cash box, took Rs1,200 and ran away.”

“Barely a month after he fled, we received a postcard from him from Malad. It only said: ‘Father, don’t be upset. I will come back.’ But there was no return address. We asked our relatives in Mumbai to try to find him but in vain,” said Dharmaraj.

Dharmaraj came to know about his son’s death on March 5. Later, DB Pable, inspector of Kurla GRP station, called Dharmaraj and asked him to come and identify the body. He said, “I couldn’t identify my 26-year-old son because when he left the village, he was a 12-year-old. Then, an officer showed his body at the post-mortem centre in Rajawadi hospital. I found a birthmark on the abdomen and knew for sure that this was my Nayan.”
