In a rare case, a woman is accused of duping her lover of Rs 4.53 lakh. The 45-year-old victim filed a complaint with the Sion police stating that the woman got his details from a marriage bureau and befriended him. A few days into dating, Sangeeta Beloni, 31, started tapping him for money.
According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Sion, is the son of a retired judge and divorced. He wanted to marry again and hence, submitted his bio-data, with all personal details, to a marriage bureau office in Borivli.
“Last year in June, the victim received a phone call from Beloni, a resident of Bramhapuri in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Beloni told him that she had got his contact number from the bureau office. Beloni informed him that her divorce was underway and that she was interested in him. They exchanged photographs and even met in Mumbai last year,” said an officer from the Sion police station.
“On several occasions, Beloni sought money from the complainant. He deposited as much as Rs4.53 lakh at two Rajasthan-based bank accounts. Since November, Beloni started avoiding the complainant and switched off her mobile phone,” he added.
“We have filed a complaint under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. The victim tried contacting Beloni but in vain.
We will get her details through her mobile number and also the bank accounts in which the victim had deposited the money,” said Baburao Gavit, senior police inspector from Sion police station.
