Before allowing anyone test drive your vehicle, think twice. A student was recently robbed of his bike by an unidentified person who took it on the pretext of taking it for a test drive.

Bhandup (E) resident Runik Krishan Dhir, 24, had put his up Karizma (MH-04-EW-9625) up for sale on a website last month. He was soon contact by the unidentified accused for the same. When they met at Dhir’s residence, the ‘prospective buyer’ went through the bike documents, struck a deal with him and then asked to take it for a test drive. Following this, the thief drove away with the bike.

Dhir waited for hours for him to return. But when he did not return, he filed a complaint with the Kanjurmarg police.

“They went to 90 ft road, which is close to Dhir’s house, for the test drive,” police sub-inspector Yogesh Thakur said. “Shockingly, the victim didn’t even knew the name of the buyer.”

The police have registered a case against an unknown person under sections 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the case further.
