An assistant choreographer was completely shocked after finding out that Rs2.12 lakh had been siphoned off from her bank account recently. Investigators from Kanjur Marg police station suspect that her ATM card was cloned and withdrawals were made in Canada. In a similar case, a businessman's card was cloned and used to withdraw Rs52,000 in Great Britain. This case is with the Charkop police.

According to the police, Pallavi Rane, 25, has an account with a nationalised bank and uses its ATM-cum-debit card.

“Rane said that she had her ATM card when she received the withdrawal alerts. The bank told us that her card was used at 12 different locations in Canada. This seems to be a case of credit card cloning. The unidentified person had accessed confidential card information of the victim and then made a similar card,” said Yogesh Thakur, sub-inspector, Kanjur Marg police station.

“We have registered a case against unidentified persons under sections 465 (Forgery), 467 (Forgery of valuable security), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged document), 419 (Cheating by personation) and 420 (Cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of IT Act,” said Thakur.

Similarly, the Charkop police have filed a case against an unidentified person for allegedly cloning the ATM card of a businessman.
