Teachers' boycott of exam work since February 4 has now forced a majority of the colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai to defer their first and second year exams of undergraduate courses i.e. BA, BSc and BCom. These exams were scheduled from February-end to the mid of March.

At present, there are 667 colleges affiliated with the university with a total of 6.5 lakh students. Jai Hind, Khalsa, Hinduja, KC, Wilson, Kirti, Khadwala and Sathye colleges are some of the big colleges whose students are undergoing stress over the indefinite postponement of their exams. Students' internship and summer course plans have been affected because of this.

Students preparing for their CA are bearing the brunt the most. A first-year BCom student of VG Vaze College, Mulund, said, “As per previous schedule, I had 45 days to prepare for my CA exam. Now, I am unable to concentrate on them either.”

Ashok Wadia, principal of Jai Hind College, said, “Even if the deadlock between teachers and government ends soon, we don't have many options regarding FY and SY exams as TY exams take priority.”

A Shiware, president of Association of Non-Governmental Colleges, said, “On March19, we will decide how to conduct the exams and give some relief to students.”

However, despite all these discomforts, students support the striking teachers' stand. “Politicians get a raise and benefits with immediate effect. Why then are they are denying teachers their right?” asked an FYBCom student of Jai Hind College.
