Five months after receiving the forensic report on the mysterious death of Versova siblings Rameez and Rehab Chougule, the Versova police are planning to file a charge sheet against the accused within the next two weeks. The Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) had submitted the report on October 9, 2012.

Vishram Abhyankar, investigation officer from the Versova police station, said, “We received the final report from the panel of doctors from JJ hospital, Nagpada hospital and FSL recently. My senior has scrutinised the report.”

On July 3, 2012, a pest control was carried out  at the siblings’ flat in Yari Road. A few hours after it, the duo started vomiting blood and were rushed to the hospital by relatives.

While Rameez died on the way, Rehab died two days later. Rameez’s body was buried without conducting a post-mortem. The death became mysterious after the FSL report suggested that Rehab died due to the aluminium phosphide found in her abdomen. Suspecting foul play, Rameez’s body was exhumed from the Versova Muslim Kabrastan on September 20.

The police have arrested the pest control contractor Rukhsar Almelkar, Almelkar’s aide and Borivli-based shopkeeper Jayesh Mehta. Mehta had sold the aluminium phosphide tablets to Almelkar without possessing a licence. They also arrested Pune-based supplier from where Mehta had brought the tablets. However, the police have been unsuccessful in nabbing the person who carried out the pest control.

“We submitted Rameez’s report on October 9 which suggested that aluminium was found in his liver, phosphide in lungs and aluminium phosphide in abdomen,” an FSL officer said.
