Nitin Sardesai, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) MLA, along with one Sanjay Shirodkar has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Bombay high court on Monday, challenging the collection of toll on the Old Mumbai-Pune Expressway even though the construction of the new road is incomplete.

The PIL challenges the unlawful and arbitrary imposition of toll charges on roads, especially on the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway, sections of the NH-4 and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The PIL, filed through advocate Sayaji Nangre, seeks that the state and companies Mhaiskar Infrastructure and M/s Ideal Road Builders, who are in a public-private partnership (PPP) to construct the road, be restrained from collecting toll. Nangre said, “The public has to pay toll fees for facilities that have not been provided by the developers.”

The PIL also wants the developers to be directed to install Advanced Traffic Management System on these roads and  provide ambulance services on these roads.
