The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to take stern action against the setter of the Urdu paper for the HSC examination.

A question in the Urdu paper on the first day of the HSC exam asked students to “write a letter to a younger brother condoling the sudden death of their father.”

Students writing the paper were left traumatised, making parents furious. Sarjerao Jadhav, chairperson of the the State Board, said, “We will take action against the paper-setter. He or she should have considered the impact the question would have on students’ minds. Henceforth, the person will not be put on any committee of paper-setters.”

However, the problems don’t end here for Urdu language students. Now, it has emerged that their new textbooks are filled with errors.
