The Satpati police have arrested a 15-year-old boy for killing his father using a sickle at their residence in Haranwadi, Palghar.
According to the police, the boy and his father got into a heated argument early on Tuesday morning after his father, Moreshwar Gharat, 62, said he would be remarrying. His first wife had died when the boy was around a month old.
“The teenager did not take the news of his father’s impending wedding very well, fearing that the property would be transferred to his new wife. After Moreshwar went to bed, the boy picked up a sickle from the toilet and beheaded him,” said Sindkar, assistant inspector, Satpati police station.
The teenager later approached the police saying someone had killed his father. However, during investigation, when the boy fumbled with his answers, the police realised he had committed the crime.
“We have registered a case under section 302 (murder) under the IPC, and being a minor, we have sent him to the children’s remand home in Bhiwandi,” said an official.
