“Enough is enough” was the visible attitude of young Sophians when they took part in DNA’s concluding women’s self-defence camp at Sophia College in South Mumbai on Wednesday.
Over 1,800 women participated in the six camps across the city. Participants learnt to get brutal while defending themselves against a attacker. She can use her teeth to bite the attackers’ ears and cheeks. Women can rip apart the jaw of an attacker with their palms and nails.
Self-defence is not only about the technique to fight back but also about the presence of mind and courage to defeat the mental block that men are stronger than women.
Founder and chairman of Super Fight League (SFL) Raj Kundra said the police’s response can also help reduce crimes against women. “In England, it takes not more than three minutes for the police to reach the spot after receiving a call on a helpline number. In India, it takes at least 10 minutes to get through the police helpline number and then some more time for the cops to reach the spot,” said Kundra. DNA organised camps across the city in association with Daniel Isaac, India’s first kickboxing champion and CEO of SFL.
“Motivated by the camps, my wife, Shilpa Shetty is learning self-defence techniques,” said Kundra.
Budding actress Manisha Kelkar and stunt and martial arts master Yagnesh Shetty took part in the camp to motivate girls to learn self-defence.
