The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has issued notices to two Kurla-based plants manufacturing ready mix concrete, asking why action should not be taken against them, and directing them to comply with air pollution norms.

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has issued notices to two Kurla-based plants manufacturing ready mix concrete, asking why action should not be taken against them, and directing them to comply with air pollution norms.

MPCB officials inspected the plants last week following complaints of rising air pollution in the locality.

The notices were issued on Friday to Lafarge Aggregates Concrete India Private Limited and Skyway Concrete which operated the plants.

A senior MPCB official said air visibility in Kurla had become poor due to pollution. “During inspection, we found that pollution control devices of the two firms were not functioning,” he said.

Lawyer Godfrey Pimenta, who complained to the board, said corrective measures are needed as diseases like bronchitis and asthma were triggered by pollution.

Member-secretary pf MPCB, Rajiv Kumar Mittal, said the firms have been directed to reply within a week.

While spokesperson for Skyway Concrete refused to comment, an office employee of Lafarge Aggregate Concretes said they would revert to DNA, but did not get back till the time of going to press.
