Questioning why Marathi has only three Jnanpith award winners and why only four women became presidents of the literary meets, Union minister Sharad Pawar on Friday said that Marathi creative writers should “come out of their ivory towers and meet the realities of life to challenge their creativity. He inaugurated the 86th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan on Friday.
Pawar said that despite women achieving great results in various fields, it did not reflect much in literature. “One can hardly recollect names of Marathi writers who have had an impact at national and international levels,” he said. President of the meet Nagnath Kottapalle expressed the need for all creative writers and poets to enter the field to change the established system. He feels that writers purify culture.
