If you need garbage bins installed in your area, you can now ask the cops for help. At least, this is what the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has hinted at.
Citing objections from city police over security issues, the civic body has slashed the number of locations for installation of litter bins to half of 10,000 spots which was proposed in budget for the on-going fiscal.
Cops had raised concerns in this regard post the September 2008 Delhi blasts and the August 2012 Pune blasts. In both the cases, it was found that explosives were planted in trash bins.
“Considering the need to have bins and also avoid security threats, we will have to find a middle path in this connection. We will hold talks with the police over the issue,” additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani said.
Sadanand Date, joint commissioner of police (law & order) said they are ready for discussions with the BMC.
