The Andheri police on Tuesday managed to nab a 27-year-old man who, after stealing a bus from a travel agency, drove for about 2km in a very rash manner and also rammed into a policeman’s motorcycle.

The accused, Vijay Thapa, recently came to India from Nepal and was staying in Andheri (East).
A police officer said, “Thapa took the bus of a travel agency in Andheri (East) by unlocking it with a duplicate key. He started speeding towards the Western Express Highway.”

“When he reached the Gold Spot, the on-duty traffic constables saw him driving rashly and honking continuously. He also hit an autorickshaw and a car. The constables then got on their bikes and started giving him chase,” senior inspector Pradeep Gosavi said.

“When Thapa reached the BMW junction in Andheri (West), constable Santosh Kadam overtook the bus and stopped his bike in front of it. But he saw that Thapa was not slowing down, so he jumped off his bike. Thapa hit the bike, which got dragged for about 25mts.”

Gosavi added, He, however, got caught in the traffic and couldn’t escape. The constables, with help from the public, nabbed him.”

Another officer said, “Thapa didn’t seem drunk but must have taken some sedative. He even tried to assault the constables when they came to nab him. He was handed over to the Andheri police.”
“We have sent his blood and urine samples for tests and are waiting for the report,” said Gosavi.
