The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to set up a modernised sex education gallery, Antarang. Although it is meant for all age group, students are its target audience.

“The idea is to inform students the right way so they understand the subject and take necessary precautions to avoid diseases,” Dr Arun Bamne, executive health officer said.

The gallery will include paintings, pictures, educative materials and lecture sessions, and will be ready in a year.

“Our primary aim is educating civic school students who come from the backgrounds where the parents themselves are oblivious to such education. Students from the private schools want more scientific information like ways to prevent diseases and innovation in medicines,” Dr Bamne said.
Women corporators in the BMC appealed to women in the city that they go for regular check-ups at civic hospitals where their names are not revealed. Sena corporator Yamini Jadhav said this will help them to know if they are infected through their husbands.

Manisha Mhaiskar, additional municipal commissioner, has assured corporators that the civic body will try to reach out to the entire city to prevent the spread of the diseases.
