Determined to break the nexus of contractors in the civic body, municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte on Monday reiterated that the e–tendering process of giving out ward-level contracts will continue, even though it is facing implementation problems in its initial stage.
Nevertheless, corporators across party lines adjourned the general body meeting and threatened to move a no-confidence motion against Kunte if the ward-level works were not taken up immediately.
“We agree that the engineers are facing difficulty in creating bills for the contracts, but the process will bring in much-needed transparency in the system in the long run,” Kunte said.
Opposition leader Dynanraj Nikam demanded to know why the ward-level work was not taken up even as the deadline till when the corporators’ funds can be used (in three months) draws closer.
More than 23 corporators across the party lines voiced similar concerns.
