The value of drugs seized by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in 2012 was seven times higher than its 2011 figure.

The value of drugs seized by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in 2012 was seven times higher than its 2011 figure.

In the 256 cases the ANC registered in 2011, they seized drugs worth Rs2 crore.

In 2012, the ANC registered 543 cases and seized drugs worth Rs14 crore

An ANC officer said that the most important factor which led to this increase was that the post of the deputy commissioner of police (ANC) was vacant for nearly a year, because of which they had fewer operations.

Secondly, their information network was revived after the DCP was appointed, after which they started conducting operations throughout the city.

In 2012, 2,673 people were arrested, much higher than the  631 arrests in 2011.

Throughout the year, the ANC kept close tabs on history sheeters who led them to other drug peddlers. “We roped in people to tip us off on drug deals and carried out raids,” an ANC officer said.
