Having been scarred for life after being raped by her father, a 3-year-old girl is now battling serious health issues. The injuries she now suffers have made it difficult for her to defecate and what’s worse is that she has no one to take care of her.
Dr Paras Kothari, head of the paediatric surgery department of Sion hospital, where she has been admitted, said, “She had a tear on her private parts which has not only made it difficult for her to pass stool, but also didn’t let us examine her properly.”
When the child was brought to the hospital on November 24, the doctors decided to perform an emergency surgery the same day. “We decided to go for colostomy in which an incision is made in the colon to create an artificial opening or ‘stoma’ on the abdomen. This opening serves as a substitute anus through which the intestines can eliminate waste products. A corrective surgery will be done when her wound heals.”
The girl was found crying in pain near Kalyan station. Passers by brought her to the police station, after which she was first taken to a local dispensary. She was administered first aid and then moved to Sion hospital.
While her father has been arrested, hospital staff and relatives of other patients admitted in the same ward as the child are taking her care. “Relatives of patients on the neighbouring beds also help her with whatever they can,” a nurse said.
Admitted in the paediatric ward, the girl has no memory of her mother, but knows that her father is in jail.
Doctors say it will take them at least three months to decide on corrective surgery. “She is too small to recover from the pain. She also has no family to support her,” Dr Paras said.
