The family members of a Kalyan girl, who was attacked by her stalker on Monday afternoon, are living in a state of shock. They fear that the attacker – Balkrishna Kalatkar (23) – might return to take revenge.
Ramola Gupta (name changed) is battling for life at Sridevi Hospital in Kalyan. “This is the second such attack on my daughter in the last four days by Kalatkar,” said her father, Ashok (name changed). “And I think he is hiding only to resurface and attack her again.”
Ramola (16) was attacked by Kalatkar with a knife while she was at home at Amardeep chawl in Pisavli village between Dombivli and Kalyan on Monday. Ramola has sustained major injuries in the abdomen and thighs. “She is still critical and under observation for 48-72 hours,” said Dr Shalvi Gaikwad, administrator, Sridevi Hospital.
“The incident took place between 1.30pm and 2pm while my wife, two children and Ramola were at home. Kalatkar broke the asbestos roof of the house, jumped in with a knife and stabbed her. Two of my neighbours, who came in to save her, were also attacked,” Ashok said.
While Ramola was admitted to Sridevi Hospital, her neighbours were taken to Sadguru Krupa Hospital, Dombivli.
Last Thursday, Ramola was attacked by Kalatkar who hit her with a bamboo as she has not been responding to his overtures. “My daughter was in her SSC last year when Kalatkar started stalking her. She was so scared that she opted out of the school and appeared for SSC as a private student. However, he could not clear the exam due to stress,” said Ashok.
Her parents then decided to enrol her for computer classes. “Even then he would follow her. We approached Manpada police four times, to no avail,” he said.
Police inspector Indrajit Karle said Kalatkar is absconding and they are interrogating his friend Karan Chalke, who helped him who helped him in breaking the roof.
