A small-time television actor, Bobby Vats, was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping and assaulting his live-in partner. The complainant, a 24-year-old woman who is a struggling model, has said in her complaint that Vats “beat her black and blue”, said an officer at Versova police station.
Vats and the complainant, who hails from Kolkata, have been living together in Andheri (West) since a year after she came to Mumbai to make a career in the film industry.
The officer said that the woman had approached the police late on Sunday, saying Vats had assaulted and raped her in the house. “A preliminary medical examination of Vats and the complainant has confirmed intercourse,” said the officer, adding that the woman’s vaginal swabs and her clothes have been sent for forensic testing.
“We have charged Vats with rape and assault. A local court has remanded him in police custody,” said another police official. The complainant has alleged that Vats often assaulted her and had tried to rape her in January, said the official.
