It is solely the Mumbai Crime Branch that can prove that Abu Jundal orchestrated the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. According to Crime Branch officials, only they have the intercepts of the telephonic conversation between Jundal and 26/11 attackers.
“It is only us who have the intercepts of the telephonic conversation between Jundal from the control room in Karachi and the terrorists who were creating mayhem in Mumbai. No other agency has any evidence to prove Jundal’s involvement in the attacks. Even if they take his voice sample, they do not have the intercepts of the conversations to match it with,” said a source.
The officer further added that in case the other agencies wanted to match the sample of Jundal’s voice, they would have to first take the intercepts from the Crime Branch. Also, it is not necessary to make the person say the exact words in order to match the voice samples.
“The voice samples are used matching the frequency and amplitude of the voice,” the officer said.
When asked whether the voice match test would be done in Chandigarh, a senior officer from the Crime Branch said it would not be required as they have the technology to conduct the tests.
Meanwhile, Jundal has revealed that his close relative introduced him to “Ahle Hadees”, a sect in the Islamic community, after which he got attracted to strict tenets that had to be followed.
“He first met a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative in hotel ‘Tawa’ in Aurangabad in 2005, after which he met LeT terrorist Aslam Kashmiri for the first time,” said the officer. Another officer added that it was after Gujarat riots that Jundal took interest in the extremist sect, which was used to brainwash him in 2005. So far, none of Jundal’s family members have approached the Crime Branch or come to meet him.
