Proposal for zoo in Nagpur before Maharashtra cabinet in a month

Forest minister Patangrao Kadam said said in Mumbai, 200 acre from Aarey Milk colony will be included in the 2500 hectare Sanjay Gandhi National Park for setting up a zoo in the metropolis.

Maharashtra government today said a proposal to establish a zoo at Gorewada area in Nagpur will be placed before the cabinet in a month's time.

Forest minister Patangrao Kadam said he plans to make Nagpur the world tiger capital.

The zoo would come up at the cost of Rs720 crore, he added.

Kadam said in Mumbai, 200 acre from Aarey Milk colony will be included in the 2500 hectare Sanjay Gandhi National Park for setting up a zoo in the metropolis.

Initiating the discussion, BJP legislator Devendra Phadanvis criticised the government for delay in the Gorewada project saying it was important for the development of Nagpur.

He said the project will attract large tourist inflow and result in employment generation.
