Former top model Viveka Babajee commits suicide

A former successful model and part-time fashion co-ordinator Viveka Babajee committed suicide by hanging herself in her Khar apartment on Friday.

Babajee, who featured in several advertisements and a couple of Bollywood films between 2000 and 2004, was suffering from depression, it is learnt. The police have recovered a suicide note from the house.

According to the police, Babajee had shifted base to Mauritius a couple of years ago. She was staying alone in Mumbai.

Neighbours got worried on Friday as Babajee did not answer the door bell despite repeated attempts, and the smell of gas was emanating from the apartment. “Finally, the neighbours alerted the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, West region.
