'Ghoomketu' Story:

Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Ghoomketu) an aspiring writer who elopes to Mumbai to fulfil his dream. His family files a complaint and a corrupt cop Anurag Kashyap (Badlani) is assigned the case. Little did he know that Ghoomketu was his neighbour for one whole month.

'Ghoomketu' Review:

Remember how The Office and Modern Family adapted the mockumentary format for their shows by the cast talking to each other after every possible sequence in every episode? That's how I felt while watching Ghoomketu. But here the P2C is given only by the lead character Ghoomketu (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The prolonged introduction scene of the film suddenly feels shortlived as it jumps to the fact that his character has eloped to Mumbai.

The movie runs at a fast pace where it shows his struggle in the past with family not being that supportive of his aspirations of becoming an actor. Raghuvir Yadav as the angry father doesn't have a good relationship with his son. He remarried and Ghoomketu's stepmother is quintessential Bollywood sauteli ma who doesn't care much. On the other hand, there's bua played by Ila Arun who is supportive of her nephew and loves him a lot. Swanand Kirkire also plays one of the relatives. Ghoomketu also gets married in saamuhik vivaah and doesn't see his wife's face even after the marriage.

Ghoomketu writes scripts in every genre and glimpses of the same is imagined by him with 70s twist music and montages. Chitrangadha Singh is shown as one of the actors and he imagines her in a black-and-white style movie. Then comes Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, who becomes a part of Nawazuddin's imagination as a new-age DDLJ couple.

How can we forget Anurag Kashyap, the parallel lead of the film? He is a corrupt cop who is assigned to search for the missing Ghoomketu without any photo as proof and it's funny why there's no photo. However, his laidback attitude hardly makes him solve any case and this time despite the person being his neighbour, he fails to catch him.

Amitabh Bachchan turns out to be the ultimate hero, indeed and it will leave a smile on your face. It's commendable of these Bollywood actors to come forward and support the film.

Ghoomketu is the reminder of the fact that spoof comedy doesn't have that magic anymore and it was witnessed last year in Diljit Dosanjh and Kriti Sanon starrer Arjun Patiala.

The good part of Ghoomketu is its length as it goes at a fast pace in telling the story but at the same time, it loses its entertaining value too. The film despite having a powerhouse of talents lack in making the film watchable and can be easily distracted.

Coming to performances, there's no doubt that Nawazuddin is an incredible actor. He showed his acting prowess in this film too and managed to leave an impressive mark. Anurag Kashyap as a bad cop is something which he is comfortable with and it's seen well. The supporting cast with Yadav, Ila and Swanand make for a good catalyst but fails to pack a punch which this movie needed.

It took the film almost four years to release and yes, OTT seems to be the right platform for it to watch and that too during the lockdown. However, it can be avoided too.

'Ghoomketu' Verdict:

A short mockumentary and spoof-comedy with typical 70s Bollywood masala.
