Review:

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent is introduced twice in the first 10 minutes and at two different scenarios. She is happy and peaceful but is very protective of not only Aurora but also the whole of Moors. For people who missed the first instalment of Maleficent (we wonder how), the narrator retells Sleeping Beauty story. The movie runs at a fast pace until the Meet the Parents have gone wrong session. But then it drops that yawns around were heard.

The second instalment has amazing cast apart from Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning. It also has Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith and she has a more prominent role than others, that's what I felt. But it did not save the film much. On the other hand, I felt Chiwetel Ejiofor although a cameo was sheer waste and wasn't given justice.

He is seen as a winged creature, a resident of Avatar-sque kingdom. Among all these chaos, Maleficent was lost and forgotten, zeroed down as a supporting role. Elle Fanning has grown a bit older and she looks drop-dead gorgeous indeed. Angelina's performance was far better in the first part but she was in her fashionable best in this film.

Overall the film was kiddie version of Game of Thrones, especially the 'Red Wedding' and 'Battle of Black Water'. Moreover, it also reminded me of Black Panther chant and also Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. How I wish makers would have not gone millennial in terms of script and gave us the old school sequel to Sleeping Beauty.

Maleficent is a fairytale from far far away land. But it is not refreshing at all. The script is weak and Disney's forte which is music is non-existent.

Verdict: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil wasn't a necessary sequel and hope there isn't any third instalment.
