Allaying fears of a continuing slowdown in the Indian BPO market, WNS and Genpact have won a contract from Australian insurance major Suncorp for five years.

While WNS was awarded the major chunk of the deal worth Rs1,000 crore, Genpact bagged a Rs250 crore contract for finance & accounting.

Shashank Tripathi, executive director-consulting, leader-strategy and research, PwC India, says the deal is a significant signal that India is on the radar as a mature destination for BPO outsourcing.

Milan Sheth, partner-technology practice, Ernst & Young India said the fact that WNS and Genpact were chosen over Infosys, Accenture and other top Indian BPO firms shows contracts are now being awarded on the basis of domain-specific knowledge, rather than just client-servicing capabilities.
