The Thermax-Babcock and Wilcox’s joint venture (JV) is eyeing 15-20% of the boiler market space. At present it is not looking at export, but is open to sub contracting projects won by Babcock and Wilcox (B&W).
Thermax MD & CEO, MS Unnikrishnan said during the analyst call, “Supercritical boilers cannot be done without joint venture. The firing combustion system is patented technology of B&W, which will also be part of the JV.”
Thermax will be setting up a new manufacturing facility for the supercritical boiler. It is looking at land acquisition in next three months and talking to state governments for the same. “In phase I, we are looking at a capacity of 1000 mw and this will generate employment for 500 people in the manufacturing and quality unit. The facility will be set up in the next 18-24 months,” he said.
Thermax is also planning to form a consortium with other small players, who do not have strong presence in engineering procuring contract (EPC).
