Tata Chemicals to increase edible salt production at Mithapur

Tata Chemicals will increase its edible salt production capacity at the Mithapur plant in Gujarat by 660 tonnes per day, a top company official said here today.

"We shall be investing between Rs 150-170 crore within a span of three years for enhancing production capacity of edible salt at Mithapur plant in Gujarat by 660 tonnes per day," Chief Operating Officer of Tata Chemicals Arup Basu told PTI.

The company might re-orient some of the existing edible salt manufacturing structures at the Mithapur complex. It would also invest in modernisation of the salt production unit.

Tata Chemicals had produced 4.9 lakh tons of edible salt last fiscal and targets to produce around 5.30 lakh tons this fiscal. The company enjoys nearly 60 per cent market share in the branded salt segment. Gujarat accounts for nearly 70 per cent of the salt production in the country.
