Tata Motors owned Jaguar and Land Rover will roll out its Discovery 4, Range Rover and Range Rover Sports models in November.

According to Rajiv Dube, president (passenger car unit), Tata Motors, with the launch of these and the new Freelander 2, the company aims to become the leader in the premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) space.

“Freelander will allow us to widen our brand offering and make Land Rover more accessible to people,” he said. The compact SUV was launched in Mumbai on Tuesday in three variants priced between 33.8 lakh and Rs 45 lakh.

Rohit Suri, head (premium car division), Tata Motors, added: “Apart from the Freelander 2, the company will also retail the 2010 versions of the Discovery 4, Range Rover and Range Rover Sports.”

This means that the older versions — Discovery 3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sports — have stopped being retailed. Suri said, “We sold 2 Discovery 3s and the customers were informed well in advance that it will be soon replaced by Discovery 4.” Discovery 4 will be costlier than Discovery 3 by Rs 2.5-3 lakh.

In line with the auto industry’s move towards dieselisation, JLR will introduce diesel variants of the Jaguar XF and XFR some time next year. The Jaguar XJ, which was launched in UK in July, will also be launched in India soon, Suri informed.

Dube added that all the latest models for both these brands (Jaguar and Land Rover) will be available in India within 2-3 months of their global launch.
Suri said Tata Motors does not plan to get the Land Rover Defender to India. “But if there is demand, we will retail this car as well.”

Jaguar and Land Rover have so far sold 20 vehicles across the models launched in India. (with agency inputs)
