Kolkata: Consumer electronics company Sony India is eyeing a revenue of Rs7.5 - 8 bn from the notebook segment in FY11, a senior official said on Tuesday.

"During the end of the current financial year, we are looking at a revenue of around 5 billion rupees from consumer notebook segment and expect it to grow to 7.5-8 billion rupees in the next financial year," Sachin Thapar, head of IT, SE & PC sales and marketing, told reporters.

In FY'09, revenue from the consumer notebook segment stood at 4.5 billion rupees, which was 13% of Sony India's total revenue, he said.

Thapar added the consumer notebook industry in India, which is estimated at 800,000 units a year, is expected to touch 10,00,000 units, due to rising demand.

"The market demand has revived of late. Going by the present trend, we have revised estimated growth rates for the next year in the consumer notebook segment, to 30% from 20%," he said.

"Currently our market share is 15% in notebooks and by March 2011, we are targeting a market share of 20%, by selling around 200,000 units," Thapar said during a product launch in the city.

The major volume driver for the company would be the sub-45,000 rupees segment in notebooks, which contributes 60% of the company's total notebook sales, he said.
