Chief minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon industrialists and businessmen in the Diamond City to strive hard to create Brand Surat.

Addressing a gathering of more than 600 leading industrialists, businessmen and other prominent citizens in Surat on Sunday evening, Modi said, "The times are changing. We are living in a competitive world and a global economy. Surat’s food is famous and it is already a brand, but we should strive hard to create Brand Surat in other areas. It should become a special identity of Surat, something which is recognised everywhere.”

“When we are competing in a global market, we should fulfil world standards by increasing our efficiency. There is a need to develop ‘Zero Defect’ culture, which is definitely possible,” he said.

Speaking about Gujarat’s growth, Modi said, “Vibrant Gujarat, investment, development, progress are some words which have become synonymous with the state. A very mention of these words has become a pointer to Gujarat in recent years.”

The growth experienced by Gujarat in just one decade, in so many sectors and that too on such a consistent basis, is remarkable, he added.

The CM urged the trade and industry fraternity to continue their efforts to for the state’s development. “We are what we are because of Gujarat. It is not that cleverer or more hard-working people are not there in other states. The difference is that may be they are not getting the right environment for development, which we have in Gujarat,” Modi said.

The CM was addressing the cream of Surat at a get-together organised by The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry. It was a hectic day for Modi as he inaugurated and laid foundation stones of projects costing around Rs250 crore during the day. “Yesterday it was Information Technology, now is the time for Environment Technology.

There will be a huge global market and golden era for environment technology products. Compatibility with environment technology will become a must. Gujarat has the manufacturing skill and the potential to emerge as global suppliers of such products,” he said.

“While investments are flowing in the state, we have already started working for the next level. We have taken up human resource development to create workforce to meet the state’s needs.
