Auto-major, Mahindra & Mahindra today launched its new mini truck — Maxximo, which, the company said, is the first model being rolled out from its Chakan plant.
The truck, which is priced at Rs2.79-lakh (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai), will be initially available in select centres and later in other parts of the country in a phased manner.
The company plans to introduce the model in North, West and some parts of Eastern India in the first phase. It aims to produce 2,000 vehicles per month, Mahindra & Mahindra chief Of operations, automotive sector, Rajesh Jejurikar told reporters here.
"In the second phase, we will have presence in the rest of Eastern India and South India with a production capacity of 3000 vehicles per month," Jejurikar said.
Over the next 8-10 months, the automaker also plans to introduce electric version and CNG version of Maxximo, Jejurikar said.
M&M senior vice president, marketing, Vivek Nayer said that the company would also consider options to export Maxximo to other developing markets after six months.
"Our primary market is India, though we will consider opportunities in developing countries across the world after six months," Nayer said. The model, which was recently unveiled at the New Delhi Auto Expo, is the world's first mini-truck to be powered by a 2-cylinder CRDe engine with DOHC technology and 4 valves per cylinder, the company said.
In the initial phase, Mahindra plans to use its own network of 191 dealers and 600 outlets to sell the product.
