If you are looking to buy Maruti’s WagonR, Omni, 800, Swift and SX4, Hyundai’s i10 and Santro Xing, Skoda’s Fabia, Chevrolet’s Spark and Aveo U-VA, you may get a mark-down on the price or a better deal till the last day of the year.
Discounts on a select range of cars range from Rs5,000 to Rs60,000, with some dealers offering lower down-payment for buying the car orfree first-year maintenance. Some are giving a first-year insurance cover for Re1.
Banwari Lal Sharma, assistant vice-president, product, CarWale, says, “The ex-showroom price of Skoda Laura Ambiente (petrol) used to be Rs12.75 lakh; but it now costs Rs12 lakh (Thane, non-octroi). Honda City, Honda Civic, Hyundai i10 and Hyundai Santro are coming at a Rs35,000 discount. Maruti WagonR has a Rs30,000 discount.”
There are also discounts which come in packages. For instance, Chevrolet Spark’s offering includes a discount of Rs47,000, free maintenance worth Rs13,000, a double DIN Kenwood stereo worth Rs11,000 and central locking costing Rs3,000.
One can even save Rs10,000 on exchange of one’s car for a Mahindra Logan and some other models. The goodies, however, are being offered only for cars manufactured in 2009. “Car manufacturers want to clear the 2009 stock as their fresh stock for 2010 will arrive by January 15. Hence, there are discounts at the end of 2009,” says Jaspal Singh, VM Motors.
Those who don’t have ready cash to buy a car and are looking at loans, dealers are offering lower equated monthly installments (EMIs) or reduced down-payments.
On Toyota Innova, a lower down-payment of Rs38,500 is being offered or an EMI of Rs14,225, till December 31, 2009.
Experts warn that some deals may not be available on the car that one may actually be looking for. “Popular car models may not be available at a lower cost. Most car manufacturers have seen record sales and have a long waiting list for popular cars,” says Harsh Roongta, chief executive officer at ApnaPaisa.com, indicating that as the 2009 stock won’t be available with manufacturers for some cars and hence no discounts.
But before taking up that tempting car deal, do keep in mind that these discounts are offered as the re-sale value of 2009 cars would depreciate in 2010. In case you are looking to buy and then sell immediately for another one, the deal may turn out sour for you.
