Intel, the world’s largest computer chip maker, said PC sales are expected to pick up next year as large corporates that were earlier delaying IT spends are expected to start buying computers for expansion.
“The interesting phenomenon is that PC sales are up in 2009 versus 2008 and I believe spending on PCs would improve significantly in 2010 from the corporate side,” Paul Otellini, Intel’s president and chief executive officer said.
“Emerging markets are growing faster, India now is China minus 10 years in computing, and that would help us grow aggressively. Trends in computing are that most of the customers are moving into the mobile and smaller segment, so to bring that performance to netbooks then to smarter phones. Since 2005 we have hired more than 2,000
engineers in India and we will continue to expand but we do not have any immediate plans to open another factory here,” Otellini added.
The Intel official said that the delay in spectrum allocation bythe Indian government did not cause much disruption to their plans as the planned auction in January and the expected rates “do look reasonable”.
