India has partially lifted the ban on rice and wheat exports by allowing organic varieties of these grains for overseas sale, two separate statements on the trade ministry website showed on Monday.

Exports of organic non-basmati rice have been capped at 10,000 tonnes in a year, while the wheat exports were allowed up to 5,000 tonnes per annum, the statements said.

Exporters registered with the state-owned agency, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, have been allowed to undertake such exports.

India had banned wheat exports in 2007, while the rice export was banned early last year.
