A city court hearing the petition filed by B Ramalinga Raju’s wife Nandini to bear his medical expenses has summoned Raju’s doctor Ajith Kumar to appear and explain the Satyam founder’s health condition.
Raju was shifted to the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences from the central prison in September after he complained of breathlessness. However, he was already suffering from Hepatitis C and was undergoing treatment for liver-related ailments caused by the disease.
Though Raju, who was diagnosed to be having some blocks in the heart, had undergone an angioplasty, his liver-related issues were estimated to cost about Rs 8 lakh. With the jail authorities not willing to give a go-ahead for the treatment without getting the budget sanctioned for footing the bill, the hospital had discharged Raju on Thursday and he was taken back to the central prison.
Raju’s wife Nandini had filed a petition seeking the court’s permission to bear the cost of the treatment.
After hearing the case, the court posted the matter for further hearing on December 4 with a direction to the doctor to appear before the court. Meanwhile, the court has dismissed the bail petition filed by Satyam’s internal audit chief V S Prabhakara Gupta.
