France is looking at a 12 billion euro trade with India by 2012 and the target is set to move on track from next year with the recovery of the global economy.

"From seven billion euros in 2007, France has set 12 billion euro trade goal with India by 2012. There has not been much growth (in bilateral trade) owing to the global meltdown.
But we are expecting trade to start growing once again from next year with the recovery of the global economy," French ambassador to India Jerome Bonnafont said here today.

While industries from his country were interested in investing in India, the French ambassador said he was keen on attracting Indian investments in France. Bonnafont was addressing a press conference to announce the programmes of 'Bonjour India' (a festival of France in India) in Kolkata.

Pointing out that France's key strengths lay in infrastructure, water management, sanitation and waste management, he said, "since infrastructure development is a key challenge to India, we are looking at opportunities in that area."

The civil nuclear sector was another area where the French were looking for opportunities, he said, adding that the Indian government has already allowed setting up of a nuclear power plant at Jaitapur in Maharashtra with French collaboration.
