Ford India posts 3% sales growth in 2009

Leading car maker, Ford India today said it sold 29,499 vehicles in 2009, clocking a 3% year-on-year jump in its annual sales growth as compared to the previous year.

Ford had sold a total of 28,563 units in 2008, it said in a press release.

Sales growth, on a year-on-year basis, in the third and fouth quarters, stood up by 23 and 22% respectively. The company sold 8,025 units in Q3 and 7,065 units in Q4, in last year.

"We will see our business growing significantly in this dynamic market, with our new Ford Figo to be launched in early 2010," Ford India executive director, marketing (sales and service), Nigel Wark, said.

During the year, sales growth of Ford's popular brand, Ikon, registered a jump of 196%, as compared to a year-back, Wark said.

Ford India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, and makes three models: Ikon, Endeavour and the Fiesta.
