The government on Monday inaugurated its first cyber regulation court in New Delhi to deal with cyber crimes.

It is also looking to set up at least one cyber court in each region to handle cases related to e-commerce forgery, email and website hacking and identity theft etc.

“We have to create a lot of awareness about cyber laws in India. I believe that the current IT Act requires a variety of cyber laws to handle any new cases originating over a period of time,” said law minister Veerappa Moily.

Justice Rajesh Tandon, presiding officer at Cyber Regulation Appellate Tribunal, said the government should have an international conference for the enforcement of cyber laws as most of the cyber crimes originate outside the country.

Cyber crimes involve activities such as using a computer to attack other computers through hacking, virus/worm attacks. It also includes crimes such as cyber terrorism, IPR violations, credit card frauds, electronic funds transfer frauds, child pornography etc. However, only three cyber crime convictions have taken place.
