New Delhi-based construction company Era Infra Engineering plans to commission its transmission tower plant in Nagpur in April-May, chairman & managing director H S Bharana said.

The Rs 70 crore plant will be spread over 40 acres.

“Construction is underway and we should begin production of towers in the first quarter of 2010-11,” Bharana said. The transmission tower plant has a capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum and will be owned and managed by Era Power, a subsidiary.

“Once we begin production of towers, we will also start bidding for more transmission contracts,” he said.

Era Power currently has transmission engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) projects worth Rs 40 crore.

Era Building Systems, a group company, also has a plant in Nagpur to make pre-engineering building systems. Era Infra also executes main power plant projects. “About 25% of Era Infra’s Rs 7,500 crore order-book is from power contracts,” Bharana said.

The company is also looking to bid for balance of plant (BoP) projects, which are exclusive of boiler, turbine, generator (BTG) of a power plant. Bharana said plans are also afoot to merge Era Power with Era E-Zone, the listed entity of the Era group other than Era Infra. Era E-Zone is into hospitality and entertainment. “The merged entity will have only our power business while hospitality and entertainment will be shifted to a subsidiary of ours,” he said.

By March, the group will have spent around Rs 300 crore and has lined up a similar amount for 2010-11. “Of the Rs 300 crore, Rs 200 crore will be invested in procuring machines for our equipment management division,” Bharana said.
