Dish TV Q3 revenues rise 31%

Dish TV India, India’s top direct-to-home service provider, reported a 31.4% rise in operating revenues for the third quarter ended December 31 at Rs490.5 crore as against Rs373.16 crore in the year-ago period. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) grew 81.5% to Rs120.1 crore year on year while Ebitda margin stood at 24.5%.

The company registered a net loss of Rs43 crore in Q3 owing to foreign exchange losses of Rs15.6 crore.

The company added 7.4 lakh subscribers in the third quarter with an average revenue per user (Arpu) of Rs152.

Subhash Chandra, chairman, Dish TV, said, “Despite a challenging macroeconomic environment and resultant price sensitivity, subscriber additions across the DTH industry have been encouraging. With digitalisation expected to boost subscriber additions, Dish TV is well-entrenched to further build on its supremacy while also targeting larger uptake of Arpu-accretive HD subscribers.”

On reasons behind subdued subscriber addition, RC Venkateish, CEO, Dish TV, said it was mainly because the company hiked prices at the entry level both for the box as well as the base pack.

“Starting January, the subscriber addition is showing improvement and we are expecting a good fourth quarter, considering mandatory digitalisation is just round the corner,” he said.
