CNG rates in Delhi to be revised upward to Rs29 per kg from tomorrow

Close on the heels of a petrol price rise, compressed natural gas (CNG) rates have been revised upward to Rs29 per kg in new Delhi with effect from midnight tonight.

"Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has raised the CNG prices for automobiles from Rs27.75 to Rs29 per kg because of an increase in the input cost," an official said.

Last month, petrol prices in the national capital were raised by Rs2.94-2.96 per litre in sync with the rise in global oil rates.

IGL had last hiked the CNG price in Delhi on October 1, when the rates were increased by Rs0.25 per kg to Rs27.75 per kg.

Today's hike has been necessitated due to a rise in the input cost of gas.

IGL has fully exhausted its quota of government-regulated gas, called APM gas, and allocation from Reliance Industries' eastern offshore KG-D6 fields, so it now needs to source higher-priced imported LNG to meet demand at its outlets.

The Rs1.25 per kg rise is mainly due to this reason, the official said.
