Bugatti unleashes Veyron. Price-tag? Rs16 crore

Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher bought one, Tom Cruise drove his to the premiere of Mission Impossible III and fashion guru Ralph Lauren owns one too.
Now, even you can buy a Bugatti in India. Oonly the price tag is more than three times the most expensive four-wheeler available in India.

And the car would be produced in France only after an order is placed with delivery in 6-7 months.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, which was unveiled here on Thursday, comes for a jaw-dropping

Rs16 crores or $3.6 million (ex-showroom), thanks to a 110% import duty.

That compares with just about Rs5 crores needed to drive away a Maybach or a Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Bugatti claims that the Veyron is the fastest, most powerful and most expensive car in the world.

“Bugatti has been doing well in America, Europe and the Middle East. Now we see India as an emerging market for us, hence we have decided to bring the car to India,” Bugatti Automobiles Sales Market Manager (Middle East, Europe and India) Guy Caquelin said.

Is it a mere coincidence that just when it has decided to come to India, Bugatti is also foraying into China and Brazil?

Caquelin says emerging markets are gaining importance in Bugatti’s scheme of things and hence its new found focus on these markets.
Satya Bagla, managing director of Exclusive Motors (Bugatti’s dealer in India) warned that the Rs16 crore tag is subject to foreign exchange fluctuations and also could well climb further if the customer decides to customise some features.

He said that since the car is only made to order, no production stock is maintained by the company.

Caquelin said Bugatti is looking at sales of 60 to 80 units of the car to across the globe this year and there have already been queries from 3 to 4 Indians about this car.

He did not divulge who these super rich Indians were.
