Boiler components for Krishnapatnam power project flagged off

Leading power plant major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd unit here has achieved a major milestone when it despatched its first consignment of supercritical boiler components for its 2x800 MW power project at Krishnapatnam Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district.

The Rs 2,500 crore order was placed by the Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited (APPDCL), a Joint Venture of APGenco and ILFS (Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited).

BHEL chairman and managing director B Prasada Rao, who flagged off the consignment at a function here last night,said
the work included manufacture, supply, erection,testing and commissioning of steam generators and associated auxiliaries.

While the supercritical boilers were manufactured at BHEL's boiler plant here, the coal mills and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) were supplied by its manufacturing units at Hyderabad and Ranipet respectively, Rao said.

BHEL had entered into a JV with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to set up a 2x800 MW supercritical thermal power project at Udangudi in Tiruchendur in Tuticorin district. The Rs 8,700 crore JV would be the first such project in the state,he said.

BHEL had also entered into another JV with Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) to build, own and operate thermal power plants with supercritical parameters at Edlapur and Eramarus in Raichur district of Karnataka.

AV Krishnan, Executive Director BHEL complex said the PSU recently secured another major rs 5600 crore order to supply three 660 MW supercritical thermal sets for the 1980 MW Prayagraj Thermal Power Project at Bara in Allahabad district in Uttar Pradesh by Prayagraj Power Generation Company Limited (PPGCL), owned by the private sector Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL).
