Ambassador still in production, says Hindustan Motors

Kolkata-based automobile manufacturer Hindustan Motors has clarified that the iconic Ambassador car, for long a symbol of official power in India, is still in production.

A humour column titled ‘From icons to relics’ by Paddy Rangappa in the Sunday edition of DNA had erroneously stated that Hindustan Motors (HM) had ceased production of the cars.

HM said the car is still being produced at its Uttarapara plant in Hooghly, near Kolkata. The company claimed that production has been ramped up to meet demand, and that it is also in the process of launching new products soon, including several variants of the Ambassador.
