Ferrari, the famed Italian sports car, has re-entered India after a year-long wait. Following constant customer complaints, the carmaker had snapped its tie-up with Shreyans Group, the sole importer for Ferrari in India in 2014.

The Fiat Chrysler-owned brand has returned with an assurance of scaled-up services in Mumbai and New Delhi. After an unhappy experience with the previous importer, the ultra-luxury carmaker is much more cautious with the new dealership contract.

Speaking to dna at the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai, Enrico Galliera, senior VP (commercial & marketing) Ferrari SpA, said, "The main objective was to make sure that the existing client-base in India was going to receive proper service."

"We did a mistake once, we can not make it again. The selection process we went through was very long," said Galliera.

The company has appointed two dealers for India for its entire range of sports cars – Select Cars for North and Eastern regions and Navnit Motors for South and Western regions.

"Keeping Ferrari legacy in mind, we will ensure that our customers' expectations are fulfilled in every way. The showroom will offer new car sales and world-class after-sales facilities with an exceptional buying experiences," Sharad Kachalia of Navnit Motors said in Mumbai.

In the near term, Ferrari has no plans for further expansion in the country. However, it is looking at Bangalore as an option for service centre.

As a part of its re-establishing brand exercise, Ferrari will be coming with new products as well. Two cars – 488 GTB and 488 Spider – are expected to be launched in January 2016.

Ferrari sells around 8,000 cars annually across its 62 markets globally.

"As far as global perspective goes, we have already sold out the entire 2016 production in some of the product ranges. For instance, 488 models are sold out for the whole of next year. In India, we could lend, sell 50 cars. It does not really matter. Here, we follow the evolution of the market step by step," said Galliera.

He refused to divulge any specific target sales numbers for India. Ferrari car models in India range between Rs 3.39 crore and Rs 4.71 crore.

dna has learnt that Ferrari had received a series of complaints from Indian customers for its inadequate after-sales service. The issue was compounded when Raymond's group chairman and managing director Gautam Singhania lashed out at Ashish Chordia of Shreyans Group through social networking sites. Soon after this, Ferrari had terminated its contract in April, 2014.
