Wholesale inflation rises to 5.25% in January

Wholesale Price Index-led inflation or wholesale inflation rose to 5.25% in January compared to December on the back of price rise in commodities, fuel and electricity prices, non-food articles and manufactured products.

Wholesale Price Index-led inflation or wholesale inflation rose to 5.25% in January compared to December on the back of price rise in commodities, fuel and electricity prices, non-food articles and manufactured products. 

In December, wholesale inflation was at 3.39%.

Fuel and power inflation grew to 18.14% compared to 8.65% last month, manufactured products was up at 3.99% versus 3.67%, the commodities index was up 1% non-food articles was up 2.5% and vegetables inflation grew but only slightly to to -32.32% from 33.11% in December. 

Food articles index was down 1.1% in January.

On Monday, the government released data about retail inflation. The Consumer Price Index-led inflation cooled to a five-year low of 3.17% compared to 3.41% in December on the back of demonetization. 

On the BSE, the benchmark Sensex was at 28,321.67, down 29.95 or 0.11% from previous close.
