India's WPI inflation falls to -2.65% in April

The wholesale inflation (WPI) stood at -2.65% in the month of April as against 5.55% in the same month of last year. However, in March, WPI stood at -2.33%. 

The rate of inflation in food articles stood at 5.73% in April as against 6.31% in March, 7.83% in February and 8% in January. Food articles form 14.34% of the index. 

The data released by Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, "The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 1.3% due to higher price of fruits & vegetables, gram and tea (4% each), poultry chicken and urad (3% each), arhar, ragi and fish-marine (2% each) and bajra and jowar (1% each)."

Manufactured products, which weighs nearly 65% of the wholesale price index, declined by 0.1% as against the previous month. 

Wholesale inflation has been in the negative for the six months. It stood at -2.33%, -2.17%, -0.95%, -0.50% and -0.17% in the months of March, February, January, December 2014 and November 2014, respectively.
