Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unveiled the budget before the Parliament on Saturday and predictably it garnered praised from senior BJP leaders and attracted brickbats from the opposition who even called it a 'dhanwapsi' programme for the corporates

The budget has been received well from India Inc with the Sensex finally ending 141.38 points higher due to the promise of lower corporate tax rates - making it the first rise on a Budget day in four years.

But has the budget really let down the common man? Find out how the 'aam aadmi' in Mumbai feels about the budget.

Pranay Merchant (30) Managing Partner in Starten Solutions LLP, from Chembur: The budget is good for the corporates, however there is no relief for the common man. While the ministry has failed to bring out a budget to appease the middle class, there is a lot of scope for industrial growth.

Alok Potnis (40) Software Developer from Vile Parle: These are not acche din. There is no tax relief and the hike in service tax is bound to affect all services. It will take a toll on the common man.

Abhay Deshmukh (29) Senior Researcher in Bio-Tech from Goregaon: The tax exemption limit increase to Rs 25, 000 is only something to cheer about, apart from the travel allowance hike to Rs 1, 600. Otherwise the NaMo government has failed to deliver.

Piyush Chaudhary (34) businessman from Dadar: The budget will give infrastructure a much-needed boost, with tax-free bonds on rail and roads. Also, the gold monetization scheme will reduce international gold demand and promote local yellow metal recycle.

Abhishek Hariharan (28) Working Professional from Mulund: The reduction of corporate tax from 30% to 25% is an amazing move. Believe me, in the coming five years, India will be an amazing place to live in!

Shoba Ravi (35) IT Professional from Ghatkopar: Gold Monetising will surely open up a lot of corporates investing in it. I am sure companies offering gold loan would be rejoicing about this announcement.

Sailesh Mishra (49) Social worker from Mira Road: The mood of budget had the right note for senior citizens. It is a good budget. It is senior citizen friendly and beneficial for today’s elders as well as for the senior citizens of tomorrow.

Surindra Khubchandani (60), senior citizen: The budget is not really senior citizen-friendly. It caters more to corporate sectors. In my opinion, such a budget will only increase the possibility of corruption in the country than decreasing it.

Irshad Khan, IT sector engineer:  My only concern is the service tax which has been increased by 14%. It will affect each one of us in the bills that we pay. Unfortunately, income tax slabs have not been increased, which shows that the common public has not been taken into consideration. It’s similar to the UPA 3 budget, but given by a new government.

Arsh Mogre (15), student: The budget is good in terms of balance. It has highlighted the government's intention to expedite key projects. However, I feel government should have prioritized Mumbai in this budget because it is the catalyst for our economy. I expected more employment assurance projects and hike in salaries.
