Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan unveiled; to launch later this year

Volkswagen India has just unveiled its new compact sedan, the Ameo. The Ameo has been made especially for the Indian market and will be manufactured at the company's plant in Chakan, Pune. 

The Ameo will get two engine options -- the 1.2-litre MPI motor seen in the Polo and the 1,5-litre diesel engine. According to VW, the diesel Ameo will get a direct shift gearbox, a first for the segment. 

On the outside, the Ameo will get auto-foldable, LED rear view mirrors, a rear view camera including parking sensors, a soft touch boot lid opener, and sixteen inch alloy wheels. Another first for the segment, the Ameo gets rain sensors which will automatically deploy wipers. 

On the inside, there's a soft touchscreen for infotainment, including Mirror Link function to sync the smartphone with the car. The inside mirror gets the auto dimming option to ensure safety, the company said. It also gets cruise control, another segment first. At the back, the seats get a centre arm rest and ac vents. Other features include, "Climatronic" automatic AC with dust and pollen filter, cooled glove box, tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

For safety, the just-revealed compact sedan gets ABS as standard and double airbags as standard. 

Volkswagen will be keeping the price competitive. The Ameo is likely to launch in the later half of the year.
